Everything I read about John Wakefield confuses me.  And frightens me.  He did things without reason.  Without any explanation.  What drives someone to be a killer?

What makes you go to an island full of beauty, and destroy it?  I can understand running from your past.  Trust me, I know pain and anger and wanting to just be alone.  But I can’t understand this…

Killing people -- stabbing them, burning them alive, and worse… hanging three and putting them on display for the entire town to see.

No justice was ever served.  Or, well, I guess it did, in a way.  The Sheriff shot him and he fell off a cliff and died.  But was that enough retribution for all the awfulness he brought to this Island?

John Wakefield is dead and gone, but Harper’s Island is still alive and here.  I wonder how you go on after something like that.  How you live with what happened to the ones you loved.  I see these townspeople on the streets and wonder what they’re thinking.  What they’re feeling.  What they are hiding from the world.

I always thought monsters lived under the bed. At Harper’s Globe, they live in a box.

Sparky has been kind enough to let me stay at his house. In his basement. Oh yeah, living the dream!

My Dad used to say to me “Fresh starts are all about leaving the past behind and running towards the new present.”  That’s what I’m hoping to do.  That’s what Harper’s Globe is letting me do.

Hometown Press Inc. has hired me to bring the Internet to this sleepy newspaper.  My job is to get all of the archived content uploaded onto the HarpersGlobe.com website, so you can have access to it.  So here I am, reading everything, soaking it up, and posting it.   My editor, Sparky Mackle, doesn’t think what I’m doing is important, but he’s old school about things.  Don’t you want to know what’s gone on here all these years?

When I get around to posting all this stuff (there is SO much to go through), you should definitely go through the site; I’m finding some really interesting things.

Some of you have asked how I got the job, and how I got here.  Truth is, I don’t really know.  A letter arrived in the mail, I read it, next thing I know I’m on this Island.  I was glad for the opportunity, cause I really needed a change.  Some opportunities just come out of nowhere, you know.  I’ve learned it’s better not to question it, just jump in headfirst and hope for the best.
