So I always tend to be the last one on the boat, but that fact won't keep me from sharing my theory on HG at this stage of the game. Bear with me if I have some facts wrong & please let me know if I do so I can alter my train of thought. Here goes!
So with what we know of the crash now, Robin gets out to find help & Cody stumbles out injured with his trusty camera in tow. Peck is presumably dead & Ashley is mortally wounded. As to the TGITR, I do not think it was a mannequin, I think it was the same man who was terrorizing the pledges at the market earlier that night. (I won't get into my theories of who TGITR is at this point since it ties to HI) I think he was setting a deadly hazard in the road with the bear trap for some unlucky victim in escelation of his previous act. When Robin swerves to keep from hitting TGITR, the headlight flash across him just before the car flips.
Now, my theory is that TGITR *thinks* the occupants of the car are dead or dying (he doesn't know how many there are) & goes to check it out and finish them off. But, when he gets there, the driver is gone. When he goes to find the driver, he sees Cody stumbling around in the woods & easily subdues him & drags him back to the car where he then murders Cody & Ashley before torching the bodies in the car. Its only after that he realizes there was another person in the car who could identify him when he sees the video. (which he kept it as a souvenir, making him DW.) In order to protect himself, & to add another trophy to his carnage, he is now seeking out Robin & killing everyone who either stands in his way or cares about her.
I think the only real tie in from HG to HI is the killer; Robin & the HI victims are mutually exclusive & just happen to be on the same island at the same time. Who needs tie-ins when there's all that lovely blood & guts?
