Hi Mark,
How does no alcohol explain high school? Or grade school? Or summer camp? Or work before I was of a drinking age? Or work when I was of a drinking age, but hey, we were at work, not out hanging together? Sports teams? During all those times I was active in lots of different activities, on teams, all that. I was never picked on, but I sure as heck did not fit in... And, it doesn't explain the occasions that I chose to drink, where things were the same anyways.
Nope, there's definitely not a firm co-relation there. Maybe it frequently helps, but it's definitely not a given that looks = popularity.
Things that I think have far more of an impact: confidence, which can be expressed in a lot of visible ways (clothes, way of walking, attitude, willingness to engage others, etc.).
And lastly - Canadian. University is a theoretical school, College is a practical school (I think you guys call it vocational or something?). Writers go to university, Nurses go to college.
